Hey, I’m Daniel (he/they)
I help young people and their families to connect more authentically, to restore well-being, and to live more harmonious lives.
My Approach
Therapy for the Whole Family.
I offer individual, couples, and family therapy to residents of Marin County and beyond. While sessions are currently offered via telehealth, I hope to open my in-person office soon. I am a resident of the San Geronimo Valley and believe that good therapy should be accessible to people in rural places, too. I bring special expertise in supporting young people, parents, and families in the unique challenges that come with navigating relationships. I have specialties in working with LGBTQ+ youth and their families as well as with parents of children with diverse needs. I also support young adults navigating challenges associated with adulthood. Doy terapia para toda la familia en español, también.
Relational Healing
Individual therapy for children and adolescents can be helpful, but I believe that true change lies in relational healing where multiple members of the family are involved. This can include anyone significant in a young person’s life from parents, caregivers, siblings, aunts and uncles, and even grandparents. It takes a village, as they say. Some of my most powerful work as a therapist has taken place with generations of family members in the same room. While we are often wounded in relationships, we can also heal in the context of our relationships. While conducting family therapy (and especially in the beginning), sessions may just be 1:1 with your young person or just with parents and therapist. When I deem that everyone is ready, we will all come together in the same room for whole family therapy.
Family Therapy Modalities
I primarily use a modality of family therapy called Attachment Based Family Therapy or ABFT which is backed by science as an effective modality to help adolescents who are experiencing suicidality and depression. ABFT has also been studied to decrease suicidality in LGBTQ+ youth. ABFT works to improve relationships between caregivers through a hands on approach where parents are coached to respond in a more attuned manner to their children. Depending on the family and their specific needs, I will incorporate other modalities of family therapy.
Parenting Support
Are you struggling in your relationship with your child or children? Does it feel like a constant struggle? I provide support to parents who desire to have more easeful and harmonious relationships with their children and young adults. I also have expertise in working with parents of neurodivergent youth (ADHD, Autism, and more) and assist parents in tailoring their parenting strategies to meet the unique needs of their children. I spent over ten years working in the education system as a teacher and therapist and know the particular struggles of having a child that is struggling with school.
“Youth treated with ABFT demonstrated significantly greater and more rapid reductions in suicidal ideation during the treatment.”
What does science say?
ABFT “is the first family-based treatment adapted and tested specifically for suicidal LGB adolescents.”
“Specifically, The Trevor Project’s 2020 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health found that TGNB youth who reported having their pronouns respected by all or most of the people in the lives attempted suicide at half the rate of those who did not have their pronouns respected.”

It's hard to give an absolute as to how long family therapy will last. Generally, true ABFT is conducted over 3-4 months. However, duration will be determined based on your family's specific needs and goals. Upon completion of the ABFT sequence, we can re-assess to determine if and what types of ongoing care and support are needed.
